MY EXPERIENCE STUDYING ABROAD
This was my second opportunity to have an experience to study abroad having the first one in Malawi for three years. What a privilege it is to have had the experience of studying abroad once again and in Ethiopia this time. Flying into Ethiopia created a lot of excitement of being in school once again but little did I realize what I was getting myself into. I think I picked the farthest place away from home so you can only imagine my nerves. Fortunately my stay in Ethiopia was more than what I expected. The calm, charming and hospitable culture that Ethiopians have really amused me, but the biggest challenge was communication with the local people as the official language is Amharic which I had no idea about. However, with time I made relationships with them and got accustomed to their culture. Despite the language barrier and their day to day struggles to make ends meet like in most African countries, their generosity and kindness is what made my experience fascinating. Spending so much time away from home enabled me to understand life in different dimensions and resonate with my past. I may be far from Ethiopians now but I pour out my heart to them for we are family!!
